Chamber of Commerce El Salvador – Holland

Dear Company leadership,

The Board of the “Bilateral Chamber of Commerce El Salvador – Holland” has the honour to invite you at its launching, to be held on May 15th 2018, from 12:30 hrs till 16:00 hrs at the Kamer van Koophandel in Amsterdam. (De Ruijterkade 5, 1013 AA Amsterdam, Europazaal, 5th floor, for route see the website of the Kamer van Koophandel).The goals of the Chamber are to promote and stimulate the trade between El Salvador and The Netherlands, as well as supporting contacts between Dutch and Salvadoran companies, providing help in resolving any problem experienced in the trade between the two countries.

El Salvador has become in recent years a growing and competitive economy in Central America, with trade and investment opportunities in different sectors such as textiles, air maintenance, medical supplies, food, agro, plastic, paper, metal, footwear, among others.

As part of the existing interest in enhancing trade with Dutch Companies, we will be honoured with the presence and participation, as speakers, of H.E. Mr. Jaime Miranda, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Cooperation and Development and H.E. Mr. Sigfrido Reyes, President of the Export and Investment Promotion Agency of El Salvador, PROESA.

In order to share from the Dutch perspective, how the economic environment of El Salvador is, Mr. Huib-Jan de Ruijter, Director of Financial Markets at FMO will be a speaker.

JAIME ANTON BAKKER: Project manager Chamber of Commerce. Jaime holds the position of Project manager at the Dutch Chamber of Commerce. In his daily work Jaime is responsible for the execution of the cooperation agreement between the Chamber of Commerce and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency. Besides he is also active in the promotion of international trade. Jaime is born and raised in Rotterdam by a Dutch father and a Spanish mother. As a native Spanish speaker he is been active before at the Chamber of Commerce as Senior Advisor Latin America. Before the merge of the Chamber of Commerce in 2014 he was the Manager of the department International Business from the Chamber of Commerce Rotterdam. Jaime is a graduate of the University of Rotterdam with a degree in Export Marketing and Management and has followed several management courses.

SONIA MEIJER: 23 years Honorary Consul of the Republic of El Salvador in Brazil, Uruguay and now to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. At present, Mrs. Meijer holds the Presidency of four different Organizations, including President of the Bilateral Chamber of Commerce El Salvador – Holland 

JAIME MIRANDA, Deputy Minister of Cooperation for Development of El Salvador: Jaime Miranda holds a degree in Economics from the Central American University José Simeón Cañas (UCA) and a Master in Business Administration from the Central American Institute of Business Administration, INCAE. Since the creation of the Ministry of Cooperation for Development in 2009, he has served as the Head of this unit. On August 14, 2013, he was sworn in as Minister of Foreign Affairs, position held until May 31, 2014. As of June 1 of 2014, he assumed again as Deputy Minister of Cooperation for Development. Jaime Miranda has studies in the Senior Management Program of the Master’s Degree in Business Administration and Management (UCA), as well as various studies in the areas of cooperation for development; design and management of social policies; international migration, development and protection of Human Rights; and training of consultants for Small and Medium Enterprises (PYMES). In the professional field, he has served as Program Coordinator in El Salvador of the Freidrich Ebert Foundation of Germany (FES); political affairs officer in the United Nations Verification Mission in Guatemala and General Director of the Salvadoran Association for Integral Development (ASDI).

SIGFRIDO REYES, President of the Export and Investment Promotion Agency of El Salvador (PROESA): Sigfrido Reyes holds a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of El Salvador, and has two master’s degrees. The first one in International Relations with a specialization in Economic Policy Management from the School of International and Public Affairs of the University of Columbia, New York; the second one in Financial Administration from the Universidad Tecnológica of El Salvador. Before leading PROESA, from 2011 to June 2015, he served as President of the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador; and between the years of 1996 to 2011, he held various positions in this institution, such as President of the Political Commission, Legislator for the Department of San Salvador and Member of the Foreign Relations Commission. Sigfrido Reyes speaks Spanish, English and Russian and he also has advanced knowledge of French.

HUIB-JAN DE RUIJTER, Director Financial Institutions at FMO: Huib-Jan de Ruijter heads the team which provides debt financing to financial institutions, ranging from universal banks to microfinance institutions, in emerging and frontier markets. Prior to this Huib-Jan was Director Financial Markets which included the Loan Syndications team as well as the Treasury of FMO. Before joining FMO, he was an Executive Director in the Financing Group of Goldman Sachs based in London. He started his career at ABN AMRO for which he worked in various roles in Amsterdam, London and Lisbon. Huib-Jan completed Master degrees in both Business Administration and Law. Huib-Jan is married and has two daughters.
